Calligraphy wrinkle
   

     The new style Calligraphy Wrinkle is a contemporary visual system that redefines the concept of cun (traditionally translated as “wrinkle” or texture strokes) in Chinese landscape painting, transforming it into a method in which calligraphy is used to construct pictorial structure and texture. Within this system, text replaces traditional cun as a structural method for constructing images of portraiture, landscape, and flower-and-bird subjects. Calligraphic lines no longer function merely as linguistic signs, but also operate as visual “wrinkles,” forming pictorial structure, texture, and spatial rhythm.
    Through the method of Calligraphy Wrinkle, the brushwork of poetic writing is preserved while incorporating the expressive spirit of literati painting, allowing text to be transformed into both image and texture. Calligraphy thus extends beyond linguistic expression to become a composite form that simultaneously embodies readability, pictorial structure, and material texture.
   From the perspective of painting, it functions as a freehand pictorial system; from the perspective of calligraphy, it forms a structured and readable sequence of writing. These two aspects are unified into a single visual language, reconfiguring the relationship between poetry, calligraphy, and painting in a contemporary context.
    This approach stands in contrast to Photoshop-based image construction, which depends on digital filling, layering, and typographic substitution. Instead of assembling images from predefined elements, Calligraphy Wrinkle constructs structure and texture directly through calligraphic writing as an expressive and structural act.
（PS：cun—or “wrinkle” is the method of showing the shades and texture of rocks and mountains by light ink strokes in traditional chinese landscape painting.）

    2000——The definition of "Calligraphy wrinkle" was first published in a Dictionary Entry of 2000 edition "Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century Chinese collectors" (update), Publishing by the Chinese Literature and History Press,ISBN7-5034 -0893-6.

    2015——Calligraphy wrinkle in Chinese characters《Three Beauties of the Present Day》,published in 《Artist Magazine of Taiwan》 (October 2015 issue).

     2023——Calligraphy wrinkle in Japanese characters《Calligraphy wrinkle·Bee and Peony》 Yamada Bee Company and the Asahi Gakusei Shimbun Company “the 11th Honeybee Illustrations Contest”  : special commendation of overseas work.
